About our schedule...
Hoylake Evangelical Church have adopted a common Bible-reading schedule to help young Christians read through the Bible in a systematic way and ecourage each other as they do so!
We've adopted Robert Murray M'Cheyne's schedule to take readers through the full New Testament and Psalms and half of the Old Testament in a year; the following year repeats the New Testament and Psalms and completes the other half of the Old Testament.
The full M'Cheyne calendar is double this, leading the reader through NT and Psalms twice and the OT once in a year, but this is hard going!
Tips
1. Work out your set time each day when you will do your readings, then stick to it.
2. You might find it helpful to choose a different time at weekends
3. If you fall behind, don't try to catch up - it's too hard. Just pick up at today's reading
4. Find someone else on the same reading schedule and check in with them from time to time - encourage one another
5. When you've finished, glance back over what you've read and pick out 1 or 2 thoughts to take with you
6. Don't expect wonderful fresh insight every day. Sometimes you will be blessed with new understanding, sometimes not. You are building up layer on layer of knowledge, and it's not a quick and easy exercise!
7. Above all, remember this is God's Word. Always ask him to help you understand, and eventually you will see your Saviour even in the "boring bits"!
